La oportunidad de reducir estos costos y planificar eficientemente la operación motiva el uso de técnicas de Investigación Operativa. Para ello, se han estudiado diversas variantes del problema de Recolección de Residuos, en inglés Waste Collection Problem (WCP), que suelen modelar rutas de recolección y viajes intermedios de descarga para una flota de vehículos recolectores. Típicamente, en la literatura especializada se asume que el costo de atravesar un segmento de calle es constante. Sin embargo, en operaciones como la recolección de residuos, el vehículo puede duplicar su peso al cargarse completamente, lo que incrementa su consumo instantáneo de combustible. En este trabajo estudiamos el problema de recolección de residuos con costos dependientes de la carga transportada, selección del sentido de tránsito en segmentos bidireccionales y posibilidad de múltiples viajes de descarga (LDWCP-ADS). Consideramos una función objetivo que minimiza costos por consumo de combustible y tiempo de operación. Proponemos un modelo de programación lineal entera mixta que resuelve el problema en instancias pequeñas. Dada la naturaleza NP-Hard del problema, presentamos un algoritmo heurístico basado en Iterated Local Search y Programación Dinámica que permite obtener buenas soluciones al LDWCP-ADS en instancias de tamaño realista como una comuna o un barrio de una ciudad. Adicionalmente, proponemos un modelo aproximado del costo de operación, el cual puede ser resuelto analíticamente, obteniéndose una fórmula cerrada dependiente de parámetros estructurales del problema para la decisión óptima de la política de vaciamiento de carga y su costo asociado. Con este fin, definimos un modelo de simulador que agrupa elementos que han probado que mejoran el aprendizaje, incluyendo el componente guía. Experimentalmente comparamos dos simuladores educacionales diseñados para enseñar Respiración Celular (una unidad de biología de la célula) a alumnos de enseñanza media. En un estudio con 130 alumnos de 2º medio, se obtuvieron resultados de aprendizaje estadísticamente significativos para ambos simuladores. La presente Tesis trata sobre el comportamiento sísmico de pasos superiores diseñados con topes laterales de acero. El objetivo principal de es desarrollar un modelo no lineal de pasos superiores para predecir su comportamiento sísmico. Un segundo objetivo es proponer una relación constitutiva de topes laterales de acero en base a ensayos experimentales realizados anteriormente. El tercer objetivo es obtener la relación constitutiva de apoyos elastoméricos sometidos a deformación lateral. La relación constitutiva de topes laterales de acero y apoyos elastoméricos se incluyen en el modelo no lineal. Para cumplir los objetivos, en primer lugar se resume un catastro de la geometría y estructuración de doce puentes (3 de ellos son PS). Además, se ensayaron un grupo de apoyos elastoméricos bajo cargas monotónicas y cíclicas para determinar su comportamiento histerético. Con los resultados de estos ensayos se desarrolla un modelo no lineal para predecir el comportamiento sísmico de un PS. El modelo considera el comportamiento de cepas, vigas y losas de forma elástica y el comportamiento no lineal de topes laterales de acero y de apoyos elastoméricos. Del comportamiento de los alumnos en aula se pueden distinguir el tiempo on-task y el tiempo off-task. El primero es el tiempo que el estudiante destina a la tarea de aprendizaje, y el segundo es el tiempo restante destinado a otras actividades. Entender la relación entre ambos tiempos es una preocupación para los docentes. Considerando la oportunidad que brinda el uso de los videojuegos educativos para motivar y aumentar la atención de los estudiantes, en esta investigación se utilizó un videojuego educativo para la práctica de aritmética para niños de segundo básico para estudiar el comportamiento on-task y off-task. Se aprendió que el tiempo on-task disminuye a medida que avanza la actividad en una clase, así como en el transcurso del año escolar. También se encontró que el nivel socioeconómico de los estudiantes y la experiencia previa con la tecnología disminuyen su tiempo on-task. En el contexto de los mercados eléctricos liberalizados actuales, los proyectos de TEP enfrentan múltiples incertidumbres. Estas incertidumbres generan que estrategias tradicionales de evaluación de proyectos, como el análisis de flujos de cajas descontados o el análisis costo-beneficio, recomienden frecuentemente decisiones de inversión sub-óptimas. Para incluir el efecto de la incertidumbre en la valorización de estas inversiones, esta investigación desarrolla una metodología que evalúa el beneficio social descontado de añadir flexibilidad a través de opciones reales y utilizando el método Least Square Monte Carlo. La metodología se aplicó para calcular el valor que tiene el añadir flexibilidad en un tramo del proyecto de la TEP que interconectará el Sistema Interconectado Central y el Sistema Interconectado del Norte Grande a partir del año 2018 en Chile. Los resultados concluyen que incluir flexibilidad aumenta el beneficio social esperado en $14,03 millones de dólares americanos. Al analizar las variables que afectan el valor del proyecto flexible, se observa que la flexibilidad tiene mayor valor cuando hay más incertidumbre y cuando los costos asociados a añadirla son menores. Además, en base a un análisis de sensibilidad de la congestión, se deduce que el valor del proyecto debería aumentar al haber más tramos flexibles en la red. The world has seen a constant search for new alternative energy resources mainly focusing on resources that are environmentally friendly. One technology that goes in that direction is thermoelectrics. Thermoelectrics can directly convert a temperature difference into electrical current or vice versa. The mechanism behind such devices is the thermoelectric effect, which is referred to as the Seebeck or Peltier effect. A good thermoelectric material needs the simultaneous optimization of three key properties to reach a high efficiency, which can usually be characterized by the figure of merit (ZT): high Seebeck coefficient, high electrical conductivity, and low thermal conductivity. However, maximizing one property while minimizing the other is a difficult task, because materials tend either to conduct both electricity and heat well, or both poorly. The study of thermal properties plays important roles in many applications as thermoelectricity and the thermal management of electronic devices. While phonons dominate the thermal transport in crystalline semiconductors, electrons are the major thermal and chargecarriers in metals. A deeply understanding of the transport properties of electrons and phonons will allow improvement in thermal management and better nanoscale materials design. The overarching goal of this thesis is to study the electron and phonon transport properties in both bulk and two-dimensional crystalline materials, which could provide important insights to the electronic and thermal transport physics in these materials. The aim of this thesis is to use both simulation and experimental tools to study the electron and phonon transport properties of crystalline materials such as SnSe, SnS, GeS, GeSe, SnS2, SnSe2, and NbSe2. Regarding the experimental study, we used the structural and morphological characterization of bulk SnSe, to determine its microstructure and crystallinity. In addition, thermoelectric properties were measured, where the ZT reaches a value of 0.11 at 772 K. Moreover, we studied electron-phonon interaction from first-principles calculations using density functional theory and Boltzmann transport equation. The intrinsic electrical and thermal properties of monolayer SnSe, SnS, GeS, GeSe, SnS2, and SnSe2, at different doping levels are calculated, helping evaluate their potential as thermoelectric materials. SnSe was found with the largest ZT, which was related to the low lattice thermal conductivity of this material. Regarding phonon transport, we applied first-principles lattice dynamics and semi-empirical Boltzmann transport to study the phonon properties and lattice thermal conductivity of NbSe2, and compare the results obtained from an experimental approach. Our estimation of thermal conductivity of 13.5 W/mK, are in good agreement with the in-plane thermal conductivity obtained from experiments, where the thermal conductivity is measured to be 14 ± 5 W/mK at room temperature. Midiendo esto (particularmente en niños), es posible generar una idea del proceso cognitivo y el análisis realizado, considerando la respuesta dada a la pregunta planteada.Sin embargo, el problema al que nos enfrentamos a la hora de medir esta habilidad es el balance a la hora de entregar al alumno las herramientas para explicar su proceso mental, intentando alcanzar la mayor libertad de expresión a la hora de responder, pero sujeto a un sistema de evaluación que permita analizar la respuesta, de forma de poder obtener la mayor cantidad de información de los resultados. Esto ha llevado a la W3C ha incluir funcionalidades como property path en la próxima versión del standar, SPARQL 1.1. Se han puesto a prueba distintas implementaciones de SPARQL 1.1 que manejan consultas con property paths, observando un bajo rendimiento en sus métodos de evaluación para este tipo de consultas, incluso, para escenarios simples. En búsqueda de una explicación formal a este comportamiento, se ha realizado un estudio de la complejidad computacional de la evaluación de consultas con property paths. Los resultados muestran que el bajo rendimiento de las implementaciones probadas, no corresponde a un problema de estos sistemas en particular, si no más bien, tiene que ver con la especificación. Estos algoritmos ofrecen garantías teóricas de eficiencia y se ha demostrado que para el peor caso, su complejidad asintótica es óptima. Más aún, se ha mostrado empíricamente que mejoran significativamente los tiempos de ejecución de consultas para bases de datos relacionales y de grafos. A pesar de estos prometedores resultados teóricos y prácticos, la comunidad de la Web Semántica aún no ha adoptado tales técnicas. De hecho, ninguna base de datos RDF nativa soporta actualmente tales algoritmos de join. El objetivo de este trabajo es mostrar cómo modificar un motor RDF existente para incorporar uno de estos algoritmos y estudiar su rendimiento en consultas intensivas en joins. Específicamente, en este trabajo se propone un nuevo procedimiento para evaluar consultas SPARQL basadas en un algoritmo de multiway join óptimo para el peor caso llamado Leapfrog Triejoin. Para esto modificamos el motor RDF Apache Jena para que resuelva las consultas usando este nuevo método. Luego presentamos resultados de dos benchmarks SPARQL conocidos: Berlín y WatDiv. Además proponemos un nuevo benchmark basado en Wikidata que busca proporcionar información sobre el rendimiento del join sobre un conjunto de patrones de consulta intensivo en joins y diverso. Nuestros resultados muestran que Apache Jena con este nuevo algoritmo ejecuta consultas intensivas en join más rápido que la versión base y otros dos motores SPARQL (Virtuoso y Blazegraph), llegando en algunos casos a ser órdenes de magnitud más rápido.
